Feminism in 3 Dimensions where we go from here

Mon May 19, 2008 at 05:32:29 PM PDT

The ups and downs of this primary have revealed some undercurrents in our culture that have surprised me to no end. The most striking of which (to me) has been the way in which some (esp older) feminists have almost gleefully forgone a serious and nuanced discussion of what feminism means in 21st century America for a simplified , almost cartoonishly simplified version of the ideals they have spent the last 30+ fighting for.
I am beginning to worry about the long term damage to feminist ideals .

R.I.P. Mona Simpson (Homer's mom)

Haven't seen a diary about this tonite , and it's late so here goes...

he was for withdrawal before he was against it

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 10:06:26 PM PDT

McCain flip-flops on every important issue of our times .... including apparently , the war ....

When it comes to getting U.S. troops out of Iraq, Sen. John McCain was for the idea before he was against it.

Three years before the Arizona Republican argued on the campaign trail that U.S. forces could be in Iraq for 100 years in the absence of violence, he decried the very concept of a long-term troop presence.

In fact, when asked specifically if he thought the U.S. military should set up shop in Iraq along the lines of what has been established in post-WWII Germany or Japan -- something McCain has repeatedly advocated during the campaign -- the senator offered nothing short of a categorical "no."

"I would hope that we could bring them all home," he said on MSNBC. "I would hope that we would probably leave some military advisers, as we have in other countries, to help them with their training and equipment and that kind of stuff."

sorry if this isn't the best diary (or even much of one) , but I was surprised to find out this news tonite and wanted you to know it too!

my Barack Obama campaign fundraiser; Obama dolls! Updated

Sun Apr 06, 2008 at 06:34:13 PM PDT

I was a little reluctant to diary this , but I decided to give it a shot anyway. I'm a plush artist (meaning, I make stuffed animals and soft sculpture pieces). I've been doing what I can to help out the campaign . I held a get-to-know Barack gathering at my local library the weekend before super Tuesday , which was attended by about 30 people or so (including at least 1 disaffected former Republican). I've been talking to friends and family about why I think they should vote for him . I've donated about $15.00 total to the campaign since February. But I couldn't afford to give much more .
Then I thought that  there must be some way for me to use my skills as an artist to help me raise some money for the campaign and to give me a creative outlet to all this newfound optimism I feel . So here's what I came up with ....

HEY!!! Mark Klein on NOW on PBS (AT&T whistleblower)

Fri Mar 14, 2008 at 07:46:56 PM PDT

just so's you know's ...

Klein tells David Brancaccio about the "secret room" set up by the National Security Agency inside his AT&T office in San Francisco. He also describes in remarkable detail—with documents to back him up—how wires were split and extra equipment was brought in to essentially suck up and store emails from all over the country. Klein claims this activity is a violation of the Fourth Amendment, yet the White House continues to press Congress not only for authorization to continue surveillance but also for legal immunity for cooperating telecom companies.

Out of the rabbit hole or Go ask Alice why she's for Obama

Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 11:08:28 AM PDT

The attacks of Sept. 11th sent our nation down the rabbit hole . It's time to finally crawl out. That's one of the best selling points for Obama; the idea that we can't afford to  be led by our fear anymore. That's why Hillary's new ad (and previous scare tactics from her campaign) falls flat.

CONVENTIONal wisdom

Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 10:46:54 AM PDT

Does anyone here have any? What I want to know is what really goes on at the convention? I'm fairly new to this level of involvement in a campaign (as I'm sure at least a few others here are) , and I can't seem to get a real answer as to what it's all about.
Now, I don't want a wikipedia answer. If you don't know, don't worry about it. but if you happen to have been to one or have some real insight into what goes on, I'd love know.
